Black women don’t really have much to worry about as they age, they have fabulous genes that mean they often look young for longer. Their skin is one of their main assets, which barely shows a wrinkle until they are way into or past their menopausal years. Think Oprah Winfrey and Solange Knowles, both women in their 60s who, we all agree, have the skin of women in their 30s or 40s. However hair and hairstyles can often prove a challenge for older black women.
We will show you some great hairstyles for older black women, using examples of celebrities you already know and love. Unfortunately in Hollywood, there aren’t many black female celebrities in the older category of role models. The black African-American icon Robin Roberts, who is 54 years old, has rocked a shaved head (due to her ordeal with cancer) and subsequently short hairstyles, all of which definitely suit her and are perfect for African-American women in an older age bracket.
Diana Ross (72 years of age), sports wavy and natural African-American hair which makes her look youthful and sophisticated. Maya Angelou, hero civil rights campaigner, sports natural grey hair, which looks great with her complexion. Don’t automatically reach for the hair dye when you start seeing grey, as it can really look sophisticated and elegant on black older women.
